Composed by Luca Maffei

An athanor is an alchemical furnace: a place where ordinary metal, under prolonged fire, changes form and value. MENDITTOROSA Athanor does not smell of a finished golden object, but of the transformation process itself.

Sulfur appears as an unpolished, volatile beginning. With blackcurrant and saffron, it gains a strange combination of acidity, warmth, and metallic tension – more a glowing workshop than a classic spicy perfume.

Iris then brings a cooler, almost silver finesse. Cypriol and Fumencens lead towards smoke and dry earth, so the transition from sulfur to flowers is never entirely clean or comfortable.

Luca Maffei perfected the formula over two years in collaboration with Stefania Squeglia. The inspiration comes from the alchemical quest to transform the mundane into beauty and from the idea that the heat of life can change a person for better or worse.

Cashmeran and guaiac wood later take over the warmth of the furnace. The initial sharpness evaporates, the saffron becomes softer, and the base leaves a dry, smoky, and tactile trail, like material removed from the fire before cooling completely.

The bronze stopper depicts two figures gathered around a furnace, and at the bottom of the bottle is a golden nugget. The fragrant core remains sulfur transforming into saffron, iris, and guaiac – alchemy without the promise that the process will be beautiful.
