Rose Egyptian jasmine Rose oil Pink pepper Patchouli Musk Vetiver Animalic notes

Composed by Jean-Christophe Hérault

Chypre is a perfume genre with rules, but this formula doesn't sound like a history lesson. LE GALION Chypre opens the door with pink pepper and icy rose, then shows how animalic elegance can be.

Pink pepper and rose give the opening a fresh, almost cold kick. Rose oxide simultaneously enhances the floral aspect and creates a metallic-icy nuance that immediately makes the old construction more contemporary.

Jasmine and an additional layer of rose fill the heart without excessive sweetness. The flowers are classic but not politely restrained; a darker patchouli is already felt beneath them.

The formula dates back to 1930, the year Prince Murat founded Le Galion. Jean-Christophe Hérault gave it a new look in 2020, preserving the structure of a grand chypre but removing the impression of a historical reconstruction.

Vetiver, patchouli, musk, and the Animalis base in the drydown change the perfume's demeanor. The cold rose becomes warmer, earthier, and more carnal, while musk leaves a sensual trail that is much less restrained than the opening.

This is not a chypre that sits quietly in a vintage display case. Its signature is icy rose over patchouli, vetiver, and an Animalis base — a neatly tailored piece with unexpectedly bare skin underneath.

One user particularly emphasized a soft, pleasant and muted feel in the spirit of Gris Dior, with a light green accord.
