Composed by Sven Pritzkoleit

On a sun-warmed African rock, a small colony of hyraxes leaves a mark much larger than their own bodies. ZOOLOGIST Hyrax builds a dusty, floral, and distinctly animalic mountain landscape around hyraceum.

Elemi, pink pepper, and saffron open the composition resinous, spicy, and dry. Turkish rose and hyacinth introduce floral color, but cannot hide the animalic core.

African stone, or hyraceum, gives the fragrance a fossilized, musky, and urinous depth. Styrax and whisky enhance its dark warmth, like a rock where the sun extracts old scents.

Sven Pritzkoleit places the composition among dusty mountain crevices where hyraxes bask in the sun, until the shadow of an eagle sends the colony back to shelter.

Amber, benzoin, castoreum, civet, patchouli, sandalwood, and tonka later create a rich animalic base. Musky effects are synthetic, but hyraceum is a natural byproduct of hyraxes, collected without harming the animals; thus, the perfume is not vegan.

Hyrax is not a safe choice for someone who only wants traces of animality. It is hyraceum on a hot rock, with rose, whisky, civet, and dust — a small mammal with an olfactory territory impossible to ignore.
