Paul Vacher did not choose a rose from a catalog: after studying seventy varieties, he found the right one in the garden of a private house, Le Galion. From that flower, LE GALION La Rose was created in 1950.
Bergamot and violet leaf first provide a green, fresh framework. Rose and aquatic peach then open together, trembling and full of moisture, without a thick marmalade sweetness.
Ylang-ylang enhances the warmth of the petals, while lily introduces a brighter floral line. The peach acts like water trapped in fruit: it softens the rose and gives it a melancholic, almost transparent juiciness.
Thomas Fontaine bases the contemporary composition on Vacher's quest and the simple idea of a perfect rose found at home. Instead of enclosing it in retro powder, he leaves it with greenery and enough air.
As the "night" of the fragrance falls, patchouli and cedarwood create a woody chypre veil. Musk and vanilla smooth the finish, but patchouli retains an attractive earthy shadow beneath the moist petals.
La Rose is not a bouquet of ten roses nor a sweet pink syrup. It is a single garden rose soaked in aquatic peach, over patchouli and cedar — a backyard flower that beat seventy candidates.
