Neroli Portofino

TOM FORD Neroli Portofino Eau de Parfum does not attempt to invent a new idea of freshness. It takes the classic cologne structure – citruses, neroli, orange blossom, and aromatic herbs – and refines it until it smells like a white shirt in Portofino, rather than an aftershave bottle.

The opening is exceptionally bright. Italian bergamot and winter yellow mandarin provide a fresh, slightly bitter citrus kick, followed by the appearance of Tunisian neroli. Neroli carries both the floral and green aspects of the bitter orange blossom, which prevents the perfume from smelling like ordinary lemon diluted with alcohol.

Orange blossom introduces a softer, subtly sweet florality, while lavender gives the composition a clean aromatic line. In the background, there are amber tones that give the whole story more body than we would expect from a classic eau de cologne structure. The result is a citrus-floral perfume that feels fresh, but not completely transparent.

Although the name evokes the sea, Neroli Portofino is not a typical "marine" perfume. It lacks a salty accord or a blue, synthetically aquatic freshness. Its version of the Riviera comes through citrus peel, white flowers, green leaves, and the sensation of cool air along the coast.

It works particularly well in warm weather, after a shower, or when you want to smell clean and put-together without heavy sweetness. It is elegant enough for a shirt, yet light enough for a T-shirt and sunshine.
