The summer breeze quickly loses its innocence here. THE GATE Sensual Dream opens with bergamot and nectarine, but behind the fresh fruit, pink pepper, tuberose, and the animalic warmth of the base are already waiting.
Bergamot, nectarine, and apple blossom provide a bright, juicy start. The nectarine is soft and ripe, the apple blossom delicate, and the citrus keeps them from becoming sweet too quickly.
Valerie Garnuch-Mentzel places pink pepper, tuberose, ylang-ylang, and cyclamen at the heart. The pepper ignites the edges, tuberose and ylang give a rich creamy florality, while cyclamen introduces a watery respite.
As it develops, patchouli, benzoin, and castoreum introduce a darker, carnal tone. Tonka and vanilla round it out, and vetiver musk leaves a drier, earthy line through the sweet base.
On the skin, the transition from nectarine to tuberose feels quick, and the finish remains deep and messy like a dream. If you want a light fruity-floral perfume, castoreum and patchouli might be too sensual and heavy for you.
In the final trace, tuberose remains stained with nectarine on warm, musky skin — a dream that began with a summer breeze and awoke with the scent of a secret.
