The light of mandarin here lasts just long enough for you to see the entrance to a dark room of oud, myrrh, and frankincense. ZAHAROFF Signature Noir is a deeper, more resinous relative of Signature Pour Homme, with wood quickly taking the lead.
Basil, coriander, and pink pepper provide an aromatic spark, while mandarin, bergamot, and ginger root open a fresh, spicy passage to the heart.
Claude Dir at the center blends bright cedar, anise, cypress, freesia, and fir balsam. Freesia briefly softens the edge, anise injects a cool sweetness, and cypress and fir enhance the upright, resinous character of the wood.
On the skin, oud, olibanum, and myrrh sink into sandalwood and tonka. Frankincense provides dry smoke, myrrh a balsamic bitterness, and tonka just enough softness so that the base doesn't become entirely austere.
If you're expecting a pleasant, quiet oud or an aromatic perfume that stays fresh all day, Noir will be too dark for you. Its appeal lies in the slow transition from spicy light to an almost meditative resin.
Towards the end, oud remains under fir balsam, with a thin trail of anise and myrrh — a blackness that is not flat, but full of green and golden reflections.
