Cashmere Wood Oud Lemon Bergamot Rose Tonka Musk Vanilla Guaiac Wood

Composed by Michael Knudsen

A fresh perfume with oud sounds like a slight contradiction. GRAVEL Across The Ocean builds its character precisely on this: citruses open up the space, and dark wood slowly closes it.

Bergamot and lime start sharp, green, and clean. There's no aquatic accord to literally play the ocean; the sense of distance comes from the large amount of air between the bright opening and the woody base.

Rose appears between these two poles and does not seek a leading role. With cashmeran, it gains a soft, smoothed texture, while oud underneath gives it a dry, darker tone without turning the entire perfume into a heavy oriental block.

Michael Knudsen combines classic Gravel house materials with a more modern contrast of citrus and oud. This is precisely why the composition feels familiar in its details, yet it can hardly be reduced to a simple citrus cologne or a classic rose-oud perfume.

Tonka and vanilla later soften the guaiac wood, and musk connects the base to the skin. Sweetness only increases when the lime subsides; it remains moderate and more like the warmth of wood than a dessert.

If you expect salt, waves, and sea foam, the name will lead you in the wrong direction. This is a journey from lime over rose to oud and guaiac — the ocean is the distance between them, not a note in the bottle.
