Chypre Caramel

Caramel and civet are not a pair often found on the same dessert plate. MIGUEL MATOS Chypre Caramel draws gentle eroticism precisely from this clash: something sweet and comforting laid over moss, leather, and skin.

Bergamot, mango, and galbanum open the extrait, simultaneously fruity and green. Cumin and cardamom immediately add a spicy warmth, so the mango remains neither tropical nor carefree.

Rose, lily-of-the-valley, jasmine, and heliotrope build a floral heart with vintage poise. Caramel passes through them like a soft brown glow, sweet enough to be felt but not to cover the flowers.

Miguel Matos wanted to create a scent of gentle eroticism — sensual, romantic, and comfortable, with the warmth of the body and the distinctive structure of an old-fashioned chypre.

Sandalwood, patchouli, leather, oakmoss, labdanum, and civet then completely transform the caramel. The sweetness becomes darker and more animalic, like sugar melted on warm skin instead of in a pot.

Chypre Caramel is not a gourmand with a little moss in the base. It is caramel over cumin, leather, civet, and oakmoss — comfort that gets close enough to become indecent.
