Witches didn't necessarily fly on brooms; perhaps they used them to apply toxic hallucinogenic ointment to places history didn't like to talk about. STORA SKUGGAN Hexensalbe smells of dangerous herbs, trance, and a sexuality that was easier to turn into myth.

Wormwood, rosemary, and black hemlock open the composition with a bitter, medicinal, and toxic green. Angelica and belladonna continue the feeling of a medieval herbal concoction that no reasonable person would put in their mouth.

Tuberose appears as an intoxicating, carnal white amidst that greenery. Salty licorice adds a dark, unusual sweetness, while lichen gives a damp texture of stone and forest.

Anna Barkne finds inspiration in the "flying ointment" that induced an ecstatic trance, a feeling of flight, hallucinations, and sexual hunger. Due to its toxicity, it was applied to sensitive parts of the body, often with the help of a stick or broom handle.

Patchouli later brings the tuberose and herbs down to dark earth. Wormwood remains bitter, lichen damp, and licorice lingers like a black trail through animalistic floral notes.

Hexensalbe is not a charming gothic perfume about witches. It is a toxic ointment of wormwood, hemlock, belladonna, and tuberose applied to a broom handle — history preserved the flight and tried to forget female sexuality.
