Composed by Tomas Hempel

Somewhere above a foggy lake, a cannon-like sound echoes, but there is no ship, no storm, and no visible source. STORA SKUGGAN Mistpouffer attempts to capture that sound in a perfume: hazy, smoky, and as natural as it is supernatural.

Bergamot and ozone open the composition with a cold flash of air. Immortelle, fig leaf, and pine then build a strange landscape where dry Mediterranean warmth clashes with green forest and the dampness of fog.

Smoke enters without much weight, more like a trace after a distant explosion than a fire directly in front of you. Vetiver and cypriol provide an earthy, rooty depth, while malty sugar leaves an unexpected toasted sweetness.

Tomas Hempel and Stora Skuggan spent four years going through hundreds of versions, searching for balance. Mistpouffer is a real, yet unexplained phenomenon recorded worldwide; possible causes range from earthquakes and gas bubbles to atmospheric resonances.

On the skin, the ozone coolness subsides, and pine, vetiver, and smoke become denser. Immortelle and malty sweetness remain like a golden stain within a gray, hard-to-define cloud.

Mistpouffer is not an aquatic despite the lakes, nor is it a heavy smoke perfume. It is pine in an ozone fog, with immortelle, malty sugar, and a distant bang — the sound of the sea transformed into a scent that still has no explanation.
